lavender and gray (2018) for narrator and small ensemble
lavender and gray was written and premiered in collaboration with poet Erica Cheung as part of "synesthesia: poetry+music" in April 2018, a concert of interdisciplinary works featuring original music by Rice composers and original texts by Rice writers. It is scored for narrator, piccolo, violin, and piano, and may be performed as a two-movement work in combination with clenched fist/open palm, which is scored for the same ensemble.
lavender and gray is a setting of Erica Cheung's poem "synesthesia," which is published in her book "We Who Are Not Native." www.blurb.com/b/8685368-we-who-are-not-native |
